Reuters Foundation provides tools and training to journalists around the world. Handbooks are available online, so journalists everywhere may learn the same skill sets and news values that have brought success to Reuters' syndicated news services. Reuters Foundation also offers AlertNet, a news service tailored to the international disaster relief community.
Based in Amsterdam, World Press Photo is a non-profit organisation known best for operating a prestigious annual press photography contest. Winning photos are featured in a travelling exhibition.
Founded in February 1950 by western European radio and television broadcasters, the EBU negotiates broadcasting rights for major sports events, operates the Eurovision and Euroradio networks and provides a full range of other operational, commercial, technical, legal and strategic services.
The Poynter Institute provides a bevy of resources to teach and inspire journalists and media leaders. Users may register to receive daily e-mails with industry news compiled by Jim Romenesko. Also, there is easy access Poynter's Career Center where journalists may e-mail questions to premier American newspaper recruiter Joe Grimm.
The mission of the International Press Institute is to improve press freedom. It monitors violations of this freedom on its website. Each year IPI publishes the World Press Freedom Review, a report on media violations.
World Association of Newspapers
A global group promoting press freedom and economic independence for newspapers. Its long list of members includes national newspaper associations, individual newspaper executives, news agencies and regional press organisations.
International Federation of Journalists
Based in Brussels, the International Federation of Journalists represents journalists from more than 100 countries. It monitors and aims to defend press freedom throughout the world.
Newspaper Association of America
Formed in the mid-'90s, this American group's current strategic aims include suggesting initiatives to grow advertising share and increase the sales of newspapers.
Staunch supporters of press freedom around the world, Reporters without Borders closely monitors the plight of journalists working in tense, dangerous conditions. It produces yearly reports about the freedom of the press, and tracks the number of journalists killed or imprisoned for doing their work.
Journalists@YourService is a partnership project between six journalism organisations - including the EJC - to provide logistical guidance to journalists visiting or working in Brussels.
International Center for Journalists
The International Center for Journalists is a non-profit organisation seeking to improve the quality of journalism worldwide via hands-on education.
Conducts residential seminars for journalists as well as sales, marketing and management professionals working at media companies. It hosts the Journalist's Toolbox, useful for reporters, writers and editors.
Institute for War and Peace Reporting
Works with local media in a small group of countries, such as Afghanistan and Zimbabwe, to build peace and democracy through free and fair media.
Asia Pacific Broadcasting Union
The Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU) is a non-profit association of broadcasting organisations based in Malaysia. It services are varied and include daily satellite exchanges, negotiation of broadcasting rights and training for broadcasters.
The Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press
A non-for-profit providing free legal assistance to journalists. The site provides a bank of relevant news stories, plus guides to accessing free information, like court records.
