‘Washington Times’ dedicates print page to citizen journalism
The Washington Times is dedicating one page a day to a citizen journalism initiative. On Mondays, the page features stories from the academic circles. On Tuesdays, it contains the work from people in the Maryland and Virginia suburbs. Wednesdays are dedicated to the District of Columbia. Content from the military bases in the area is featured on Thursdays. On Fridays, the paper features material from 'faith' communities and Sundays are for charities and public service. 'We know there are many issues and communities we have not been able to fully cover within the confines of a newsroom budget, and we are excited to empower citizens within those communities to provide us news that will interest all our readers,' John Solomon, executive editor, said in a statement. The Washington Times provides citizen contributors a written set of rules for reporting as well as the newspaper's own ethics standards. 'While we are expanding our resources through this project, we will not be changing any of our editorial standards,' Solomon said. (Editor and Publisher)
