Rio de Janeiro to host major international investigative journalism conference in 2013
In October of 2013, Rio de Janeiro will host the International Congress
of Investigative Journalism, one of the world's largest conferences on
the topic, with roughly 1,200 journalists in attendance, reported the
newspaper Folha de S. Paulo. For the first time, the Global Investigative Journalism Network will
have its main event in Brazil, along with the annual conference
organized by the Brazilian Association for Investigative Journalism
(ABRAJI in Portuguese). The two non-profit organizations plan to discuss
best practices in journalism. According to ABRAJI, it was chosen as the event's co-organizer because
of the group's success in organizing its own investigative journalism
conference, Brazil's largest, which will hold its 8th edition in 2013.
The last one, held in July of 2011, had more than 800 participants from
Brazil and around the world. The International Congress of Investigative Journalism will take place
Oct. 12-15 at the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro.
There, journalists will be able to share their experiences of past
investigations and techniques used. The last congress was held in
Ukraine, in 2011, and this will be the first time that the event takes
place outside of Europe. (knight Center)
