Netherlands: Free dailies considered by most to be a quality product
According to a recent study by Daphne Communication Management BV, 73%of the men and women interviewed consider the Netherlands’ free dailies to be a quality product. The survey included 1,015 men and women between the ages of 16 and 64. Of this pool, 25% considered the freesheets good but inferior to paid dailies, and 2% said the papers were not quality journalism. In terms of popularity, Metro topped with list followed by Spits, Dag, and de Pers. According to the survey, Dag readers spend the longest amount of time with their papers (18.2 minutes), but Metro readers are more likely to read half or more of the paper’s pages.
