Burmese news agency joins IFEX
The Mizzima news agency, a Web-based project run by Burmese exiles, has joined a global network of organizations that promote freedom of expression. The International Freedom of Express Exchange (IFEX) accepted Mizzima and nine other groups at its general meeting October 16, 2007 in Montevideo, Uruguay. IFEX now has 81 member organizations. Mizzima was instrumental in broadcasting news about the recent protests in Burma and the military government’s subsequent crackdown. The Web site provides audio and video reports as well as written articles. (International Journalists Network)
