BBC revamps news and sport sites
The BBC is to roll out the next phase in the relaunch of its internet offering next week, giving its news and sport websites a new embedded video service, more pictures and added emphasis on breaking news and live events. It hopes to increase user numbers for its audio and video content by using a player that will embed video reports in relevant stories, rather than necessitating a pop-up window. The new player also allows users to share clips and embed them on external websites, including their own blogs and social networking sites, and, during trials, the new player increased user numbers by more than ten times, according to the BBC. The BBC wants to aggregate its content more efficiently across its online website network and began last month by introducing a new, customisable homepage for bbc.co.uk. (The Guardian)
