The EJC announces special focus on Emergency Journalism in digital age
Maastricht - September 5, 2012
At this year’s PICNIC Festival in Amsterdam, the European Journalism Centre (EJC) is organising a session entitled “Maps, the Power of the Crowd & Big Data Verification” on 17 September at the EYE Film Institute. The event will investigate the changing ownership in society and media in digital age, the advantages and limitations of crisis mapping, and the role of journalists in verifying crowd sourced information in disaster situation.

During the PICNIC event, the EJC is launching a new website on “Emergency Journalism”, which brings together relevant news and resources for media professionals reporting in volatile situations. The website focuses on tools that use up-to-date digital technology, from content curation tools to multi-layered live maps, to support media coverage of emergencies such as natural disasters and political conflicts. The EJC has also launched the fourth round of the CLICK ABOUT IT Worldwide Photography Competition, which focuses on the theme “Crises & Disasters”.
